Engagement Photos at The Depot Ice Rink

Kevin and Katelyn proudly display their heritage and love for each other with Claddagh rings. The traditional Irish rings feature hands, heart, and crown that symbolize love, loyalty, and friendship. Before love and loyalty it was a simple high school crush on an older hockey player. While Katelyn pursued Kevin’s friendship it grew into much more and soon they begin their new lives together with a ceremony at Cathedral of Christ the King in Superior, WI.

Kevin has been both a hockey player and coach, so it was only appropriate to take Katelyn on an ice skating date. It was a foggy and wet day at The Depot Ice Rink in downtown Minneapolis but that didn’t stop us. Kevin and Katelyn skated circles around me while 9 year old kids laughed as they whizzed past and I fumbled with the camera. It was the first time I’ve put on skates in over a decade. Our day ended without incident and we finished up our shoot a few weeks later in their hometown of Eau Claire. I’m so excited for you both and can’t wait for the wedding!

Twin City Bridal Association – The Wedding Fair

The Wedding Fair by Twin City Bridal Association is the largest bridal show in Minnesota showcasing 200 wedding experts and an estimated 1300 brides. We had a spectacular time meeting hundreds of brides and hearing all the romantic wedding details they were planning. The highlight of the day was the bridal fashion show featuring world famous designers and an 80ft runway. Thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello and we look forward to getting together with many of you over the coming weeks.

WPPI 2013 and a Las Vegas iPhone Wedding

The WPPI convention and expo has become an annual pilgrimage for 16,000 photographers who descend upon MGM in Las Vegas to learn, network, and experience the latest and greatest trade-show gadgets. Aspiring photographers can rub elbows with the who’s who of the photography world and even seasoned pros pick up a tip or two from the new generation. The instructors are world class and cover a variety of topics ranging from technical to business. I’ve been home for a few days now but my brain is still chalk full of new ideas that will help better serve our couples.

What happens in Vegas usually stays in Vegas but this story is too random to keep quiet. After dinner my friends and I (names have been redacted to protect the innocent) were passing through Cosmopolitan when a bridesmaid shouted across the lobby urgently needing somebody, anybody, to fill the wedding chapel seats. We looked at each other, shrugged our shoulders, and diligently obeyed. I chuckled that I was a wedding photographer and was promptly handed an iPhone and asked to shoot the wedding. The ceremony was not quite what we might expect in the Midwest and was full of Las Vegas idiosyncrasies. It was one of those experiences that we will laugh at years from now over a drink but at the time we were all wondering “What the heck is going on?!” The next time a bride asks if I’ve ever shot an “iPhone Wedding” I can confidently and truthfully say, “YES!”

The Perfect Wedding Show

We had an extraordinary time meeting brides throughout The Perfect Wedding Show at International Market Square in Minneapolis. The bridal fair featured many of the best photographers, bakers, florist, DJs, bridal shoppes and venues that the Twin Cities has to offer. One of our favorite venues also happened to be our neighboring booth. Greysolon Ballroom, from our old stomping grounds in Duluth, is far and away the most elegant ballroom in the Twin Ports and we are excited to be shooting there again this summer. Fall Engagement Photos at Lake Harriet

Garrett and Christine chose what may have been the last truly gorgeous autumn day for their engagement shoot at Lake Harriet in Minneapolis. We had a great time climbing (and falling out of) trees, walking in the woods, and enjoying Minnesota’s fall colors. I’ve known Garrett for quite awhile and over the years have watched him grow into a fine young man with the sweetest bride possible. I am so happy you’ve found the women of your dreams, congratulations and all the best!

Northland Country Club Wedding: Darren and Andrea

It was a blustery September day in Duluth but that didn’t stop Darren and Andrea from making the most of their outdoor wedding at Northland Country Club. Guests endured biting lake winds to witness the couple exchange vows beneath Darren’s handmade birch arch. During the ceremony Darren and Andrea shared from a glass of sweet wine followed by a bitter wine, symbolizing their promise to share both the sweet and the inevitable bitter times ahead. After the ceremony, the newlyweds slipped away in Darren’s classic Oldsmobile for a few private moments at a secret beach on Lake Superior. As the sun broke from behind the storm clouds, we were able to capture some amazing shots and were reminded that life may bring a few bitter days, but the sweet ones are just around the corner.

Destination Wedding Vail Colorado: Matt and Carey

Eleven years, to the day, after Matt and Carey first kissed as college students they exchanged vows and shared their first kiss as husband and wife. While dating, Matt and Carey created many special memories hiking the Rockies. They thought the summit of Vail Mountain would be the perfect location for their destination wedding. Guests arrived via gondola from Lionshead Village and were treated to stunning views of the Colorado Rockies and golden aspens in peak fall foliage. The ceremony, officiated by their friend Karen, was short and sweet with a healthy dose of humor. Karen unexpectedly produced Carey’s little red shorts that first caught Matt’s eye eleven years ago. Matt and Carey may never have shared that fateful first kiss without the help of those little red shorts.

After the wedding the bridal party returned to Lionshead for a quick photo session and then on to Saddle Ridge at Beaver Creek. Saddle Ridge was the perfect venue to conclude the celebration with it’s rustic decor and mountain views surrounding the dance floor.
